August 26-28, 2009
The Call for Participation has been released! Welcome to the official site of Wikimania 2009, the 5th International Conference of the Wikimedia Foundation, that is being held on August 26-28, 2009 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It will be the first held in Spanish and in the Southern Hemisphere. Following the spirit of multilingualism, the conference program will be bilingual in Spanish and in English, including a simultaneous translation service for the main track. The venue of the event will be the Centro Cultural General San Martín (General San Martín Cultural Centre, CCGSM), the most important of its type in Argentina, located in the tourist center of Buenos Aires. Wikimania is an annual conference aimed at the contributors of all the Wikimedia Foundation's projects. It allows the community and the general public to learn and share free knowledge initiatives and collaborative projects all over the world. The previous conferences were held in Frankfurt (Germany), Boston (United States), Taipei (Taiwan) and Alexandria (Egypt). Wikimania 2009 will be attended by important representatives of Wikimedia and free culture, with special emphasis on the academic aspect of the projects. Like all wiki projects (and this site is a wiki), this is in constant development. The information presented here will be expanded and improved over time, as we approach the date of the event. For now, this works with the help of volunteers to ensure basic information in the main sections. The tentative schedule will be published as soon as it becomes available.
