Scholarships
With the generous support of several funders, the Wikimedia Foundation is offering a limited number of scholarships to pay for selected individuals' round trip air travel and registration fee for Wikimania 2009 in Buenos Aires.
The scholarship application period has now closed and scholarships have been awarded. If you have not been awarded a scholarship, and you can make other arrangements to attend Wikimania 2009, we strongly encourage you to do so!
All applications for scholarship were reviewed by the Scholarship review committee. Any active contributor to a Wikimedia project and/or any active volunteer was considered eligible. Criteria for selecting recipients were determined by the Committee, in accordance with the goals and focus areas of Wikimania and Wikimedia. Our goals are to make Wikimania 2009 Buenos Aires successful and productive and to support Wikimedia projects.
To qualify for scholarship for next year's Wikimania conference (2010, in Gdansk, Poland), we encourage you to actively participate in and contribute to the Wikimedia projects.
What expenses are covered
Expenses to attend Wikimania 2009 Buenos Aires that are eligible for the scholarship award:
- Air travel to and from Buenos Aires.
- Registration fee for Wikimania 2009 (includes access to all sessions, lunch on meeting days and access to the party).
What expenses are not covered
Expenses to attend Wikimania 2009 Buenos Aires that NOT eligible for the scholarship award:
- Accommodations (hotel)
- Daily allowance for meals or incidental expenses
Disbursement of Scholarship Award
Cost of round trip air travel for scholarship recipients will be paid for directly by the Wikimedia Foundation through a travel coordinator. Registration fees for scholarship recipients will also be covered. Reimbursements will not be provided for those who book travel on their own. Reimbursements will not be provided for accommodation, meals, or other incidentals.
