Eligible Expenses

The way this is now written, it seems that the only eligible expense is air travel. Is it reasonable to expect that some needy folks from within Argentina or neighboring countries might not be flying but taking, say, a train or bus or otherwise? Would we want to support them?--Girl2k 05:58, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Girl2k: There is a Scholarships Committe working on the subject. I think that soon they will announce all the details about scholarships. Barcex 08:02, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Barcex: I am on the scholarships committee. :) The comment was addressed to them. --Girl2k 17:48, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Eligibility

Following the use of prior wikimanias, an eligibility condition making scholarships available only to English speakers has been introduced. Since WM2009 has been defined as the first (at least)bilingual conference, the requirement makes no sense at all. We should expect applicants to speak English _or_ Spanish (or maybe Portuguese too, which is close enough to Spanish to be reasonable understandable). ScholarshipsComm should check this issue. Yes, and I'm sure plenty of under-18 people have received scholarships in the past (there are also plenty of under-18s)... please make discuss that a bit more before you make it a requirement. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 22:04, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Curiously I'm under-18, peruvian (Peru is near Argentina), and Spanish speaker... :P --Walterzum 00:06, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Was that decided by the Scholarships Committee, or are we just copying other years' conditions? If the latter is the case —and I agree with Cinabrium in that the requirement makes no sense and is indeed discouraging—, we should correct it as soon as possible. --Galio 02:07, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know where that has come from. I don't remember any age or language requirements being discussed. I've removed it and reworded the part about needing a user page as some people make plenty of edits without making a user page. Angela 03:35, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry guys I was making suggestions in edits hoping for input. I thought that if we were making travel plans ourselves that there might be an over 18 requirement for air travel. As for English, I'm sorry. I thought that was discussed during our IRC meeting, the language issue, and didn't realize that this meeting will be bilingual, which is great, unlike previous ones. --Girl2k 19:51, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Extra Schoolarship

If there are extra scholarships, and they could award an ordinary Wikipedia reader and beginer in editing to attend Wikimania 2009, it is strongly encouraged to do so! :-)––Hhlong 09:54, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

all scholarship funds have been allocated and there is a waiting/reserve list should any of the scholarships be turned down. sorry, but maybe you would like to apply next year. regards --Markie 09:58, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your timely reply. ––Hhlong 10:02, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
